AwardsThe ASCILITE awards are designed to reward leaders in the use of electronic technologies in teaching and learning in tertiary education. All current ASCILITE members can submit an example of work for consideration. Further details about the award categories and conditions are available at ASCILITE Awards. Program RationaleThe major issues which need to be considered by those intending to submit a paper for the ASCILITE 2003 conference are:
Published PapersBoth full and concise papers will be published in the ASCILITE 2003 proceedings and online. Both full and concise papers must address at least one of the conference themes. Full PapersThe aim of full papers is to provide comprehensive and up-to-date reviews of an aspect of educational technology development and/or implementation. Full papers should clearly articulate the problem, task or area of inquiry. They should be academically rigorous and be appropriately referenced (APA style; 5th Ed.). The aim of the paper should be clear and authors should draw out the major implications or conclusions of their discussion. Areas that fall within the scope of full papers include:
Authors are encouraged to address one of the conference themes and full papers will be considered based on their relevance to these and on their academic merit. Full papers must not exceed more than 10 pages (when using the formatting described below).
Concise PapersThe aim of concise papers is to provide a forum for the discussion of recent innovations in the area of educational technology development and/or implementation and a forum for the discussion of works in progress. As with full papers, concise papers should be academically rigorous and appropriately referenced. Areas that fall within the scope of concise papers include:
Concise papers are not restricted to the areas outlined above and the program committee will accept additional papers based on their academic merit, innovation and relevance to the conference themes. Concise papers must not exceed 4 pages (when using the formatting described below)
Work in progress can be submitted for presentation in poster format. Each poster must be supported by a one-page summary, which will appear in the conference proceedings. To be considered, the summary must be submitted by the submission deadline for papers and must be in the standard format, adhering to the author's guidelines.
Presentation FormatsPresenters will be given the opportunity to present in one of three formats at the conference: traditional paper presentations, interactive presentations and poster presentations. Full PaperFull paper presentations can be traditional paper presentations or interactive presentations and authors are encouraged to nominate the presentation format that they would prefer.
Concise Paper Presenters will be allotted a 20 minute time period in the conference program. This time is divided into 15 minutes speaking 5 minutes changeover time. Presenters must not encroach on the changeover time as this is needed to allow support staff to complete technical changeovers between presentations and will allow conference delegates to move between sessions. PosterPoster presentations may be viewed at each of the morning and afternoon teas. An extended afternnon tea on Tuesday afternoon will allow poster presenters to discuss their work with delegates at their presentation. Presenters can bring their own laptop computers to supplement their display but computers will not be provided by the conference organisers. Each poster submission will have one side of a panel. The panel size is 1200mm wide × 2300mm high. The panel orientation is portrait. Your poster display should be fine as long as you arrange your posters to fit in this area. Please bring your own materials to stick your posters onto your panel. The poster panels will be ready for you on 7 December 2003. They are located in Union House Level 1 (Map reference E5).
The Refereeing ProcessBoth full and concise papers will be subjected to a double blind peer review. Full and concise papers that are accepted will be published in the ASCILITE 2003 conference proceedings, which will appear in both print and electronic form. This refereeing process will conform to international standards. Please note that abstracts will not be reviewed as part of the refereeing process. Full and concise papers are due by July 30, 2003 (see critical dates). WorkshopsAs usual workshops will be run on the Sunday before the formal opening of ASCILITE 2003. Workshops make an invaluable contribution to the ASCILITE conference program as they provide a forum for detailed discussion and consideration of issues in the area of educational technology. They provide an excellent opportunity for staff development where experts in the field take time to enhance the skills and broaden the perspectives of participants. Workshop proposals should be no longer than three pages (or 1,500 words). Body text should be Times New Roman, 12 point, singled-spaced and all margins should be set at 3 cm. Proposals should include the following information:
SubmissionsSubmissions that conform to the above guidelines should be sent as email attachments in either Microsoft Word or Rich Text File (RTF) format to the ascilite2003@adelaide.edu.au. |
