Workshop Title:
Introduction to Online Education - Theory and Practice

Description:
This whole day workshop will start with the theory of online education by working through a paper accepted for the International Conference on Computers in Education, titled "Technology by Degrees: The phased introduction of online education". This paper has been used in the running of Master Classes for online educators by RMIT and other Universities in Australia throughout 1998. The paper and accompanying discussion will provide participants with a practical method for assessing their current and future capability and requirements, to deliver online education.

The second half of the workshop will be a hands on session where participants will publish a small class using the popular TopClass 2 server software. Using supplied material in HTML format you will use the full range of administration features, as well as the student services, of this typical web-based training application, developed originally by Dublin University. TopClass is completely platform independent and administered totally from an HTTP browser.

Time: 9.30 Ð 4.30

Prerequisite Skills:
Basic HTML Authoring and an understanding of web publishing basics. Both technical and non-technical participants will be catered for with two instructors in the room for the hands on session. Participants will be provided with readings prior to the workshop.
