The Benefits of Java to Teaching and Learning

Objectives/Outcomes:

Participants will be introduced to Java - applications and applets - and shown how it may benefit Teaching and Learning. This will consist of an overview of Java and an introduction to the language components. It will be shown how these components may be used to increase user interaction and participation in educational units, and hence how this may help students to learn more easily. Case studies will be shown, as well as pointers to online Java educational resources and units. The workshop will be conducted in a laboratory environment so that participants get hands-on experience with the various applets, etc.

This is not a workshop on how to program in Java.
