Project and Financial Management for Multimedia Developers

Phil Hobbs is director of a national centre of excellence in the development and use of technology-based methods in teaching, learning and research. He has extensive experience of managing multimedia projects and has provided training on project management in the UK and Australia.

The majority of projects that fail do so because of poor project management, yet project and financial management is a far less complex and daunting task than many texts suggest. Unless you are leading a multi- million dollar, multi-nation project most of the management effort should be focused on supporting the development effort and assisting the progress of the project, not on form filling and reporting.

This workshop is intended to provide a practical case study based approach to explaining project and financial management. Taking a life-cycle approach, we will follow a project through the five key stages of initiation, start-up, development, delivery and maintenance, at each stage looking at the establishment and maintenance of robust project and financial management procedures. The closing session in the workshop will look at commercial exploitation and business planning for multimedia projects.
