Welcome Reception
The welcome reception will be held on Sunday 9 December from 6:00 to 8:00 pm
in the foyer and courtyard of the Economics and Commerce Building. This is an
excellent opportunity to register and catch up with people you have not seen
since the last ASCILITE conference. It is also an opportunity for new ASCILITE
delegates to be welcomed.
Morning Tea, Lunch, Afternoon Tea
All refreshments will be served in the foyer and courtyard of the Economics
and Commerce Building. Benches surround the courtyard and continue around the
Economics and Commerce Building (to the north). Benches also surround the South
Lawn which is but a short amble away.
Conference Dinner
The ASCILITE Dinner Dance is always a highlight of the conference, and this
year's will really be something special. The theme for the dinner dance is
the Roaring 20s and Swingin' 30s. Entertainment is provided by
Melbourne's seventeen piece big band, The JW Swing Orchestra. Originally
the Jubilee Theatre, and more recently the Adelphi Theatre, the San Remo
Ballroom was remodelled and renamed in 1963. Boasting a large circular dance
floor and high ceilings, the San Remo maintains an intimate atmosphere with the
warm timber panelling and ambient lighting, recapturing the style and romance
of the Art Deco era. Don't forget to bring your costume. The San Remo
Ballroom is located at 365 Nicholson St, North Carlton.
Local Restaurants
The University of Melbourne is located in one of the premier restaurant
districts in the city. Lygon Street is a five minute walk (east) and bustles
with fantastic restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. The conference
organisers have prepared a list of restaurants which can be reviewed at the
registration desk. Or simply wander down and see what takes your fancy!
The ASCILITE and Conference Awards
The prestigious ASCILITE Awards will be presented in the final session of
the conference on Wednesday 12 December. Awards will be presented in the
categories of "Best web application of computers to teaching and
learning" and "Best CD-ROM application of computers to teaching and
learning". Every year a number of outstanding papers are also recognised
at the ASCILITE conference. Best paper presentations will also be made in the
final session.
