Sound recording and playback, still and video images, and the use of contextual cultural components were included in the application. The system was developed by two honours computing students working in conjunction with academic supervisors. It provides an excellent example of the type of creative applied research that is currently being undertaken by tertiary students working in the multimedia field. Issues of delivery platform and authoring tool selection are discussed. Reflections by both students and supervisors on the process of design and development of the prototype as an applied research project concludes the paper.
